INSTALLATION

Installation Guide

We can, and do guarantee the premium quality of our Camino Contractors skylights, however, we can’t take any responsibility for the installation of our products – this falls on the builder. Our installation steps are a guide only. Never attempt any work yourself if you are not feeling competent.

6-step quick Installation guide

1

Prepare your roof by creating the exact opening

The structural opening should be the same as the size of your skylight. Please note that the quoted sizes on our website are the internal dimension (overhang is added on top).

2

Prepare the timber upstand for your skylight

BS 6229: 1982 Code of Practice for flat roofs states that the upstand should be at least 150mm above the level of your roof.

3

Weather your timber upstand

Weather the upstand by applying roof membrane up and over the edge. Our Accessories page offers a range of lead and lead-alternative flashing options.

4

Install the skylight support tape

Very important step as this will ultimately support the weight of your skylight. You can find recommended glazing tape in our Accessories page. Alternatively speak to us for further recommendation.

5

Structural sealant and skylight installation

On the top of the upstand, generously apply structural sealant Dow Corning 895 available here. Next, lower the skylight into the upstand by using the correct lifting methods and equipment.

6

Apply weatherproofing sealant

Apply waterproof sealant on the underside of the overhang and smooth it over using a silicone spatula to ensure it is watertight. Dow Corning 791 Weatherproofing Silicone is recommended. Available here.
